THE INTERNATIONAL SCHOOL OF THE ALGARVE
The International School of the Algarve was founded in 1972 and has been providing a quality education through the medium of English to the international community of the Algarve for 30 years.

The Primary School (4 to 10 years) and Secondary School (11 to 18 years) offer English National Curriculum, modified to suit an international clientele, and pupils prepare for IGCSE at age 16 and academic and vocational A levels at 17 and 18 years old. The teaching staff are British trained and experienced.

Pupils are from about 26 different nationalities. There is support when needed from an English as a Foreign Language Department as well as from a School Psychologist and Special Educational Needs Department.

The School occupies a nine-hectare site on the main East-West coast road in the central Algarve, approximately 30 minutes from Faro International Airport. The School Bus Service serves a wide area, from Luz and Lagos in the West to Faro in the East.

The School has been purpose-built and, as well as spacious facilities for football, athletics and basketball, includes two self-contained Kindergarten units, 37 classrooms, a gymnasium/assembly hall, four Art rooms, two Music rooms, three Science Laboratories, three Computer rooms, a Design Technology Workshop, kitchens and dining rooms.

The School Year runs from September to June with breaks of about two weeks at Christmas and Easter, plus Portuguese national holidays.

Please contact the Headmaster, John Butterworth, if you would like a prospectus to be posted or e-mailed to you. When you are ready to see the School he, or the Head of Primary, Ms Best, would be delighted to meet you and show you around.
